The importance of interaction with your child
Small children want to see their parents more than anything when riding in their stroller says child psychologist Sissel Unger, who applauds the Stokke Xplory.
“Small children want to see their parents more than anything when out riding in their stroller. Therefore it’s important to have the stroller facing towards the parent. Also, try to place the child as high as possible so that you constantly have close eye contact and interaction”, says specialist and clinical psychologist Sissel Unger.
Unger applauds the Stokke Xplory, for the reason that both infants and children are able to lie or sit approximately 50 cm higher and therefore closer to the parent than with other conventional strollers, carriages or pushchairs.
Stokke Xplory is based on the unique philosophy that "Higher is better", a philosophy that is shared and demonstrated by the award-winning children’s chair, Tripp Trapp. The Stokke Xplory adjusts and grows with your child, raising them to an elevated position to provide an optimal feeling of safety and closeness.
Due to the height of Stokke Xplory, your child is always able to remain in close eye contact with you, which is especially important during the first 18 months of your child’s life where your child not only looks for you constantly and reads your facial expressions, but also begins to grasp sounds and basic language skills.
“Make sure that you go for walks on the child’s terms: The child wants to have interaction, closeness and dialogue with you more than anything. Then it feels safe. You must never put the child in a position that makes them feel abandoned or alone. I would not turn the driving direction at all until the child is at least two years old”, says Unger, who together with specialist Anne Carling, runs a counselling center for families with small children.
“Self-confidence and the ability to establish contact and attachment are developed during the interactions between parent and child. Therefore you should always choose surroundings that do not restrict your contact with your child. Remember, you are out walking with your child”.
